Understanding the Ireland education system

Ireland uses the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). Level 8 is an honours bachelor's or higher diploma; Level 9 is a master's. The level of your qualification decides how long you can stay on Stamp 1G.

Eligibility

Admission requirements for Ireland

Most universities ask for IELTS 6.5 for master's; Duolingo and PTE are accepted by many institutions.

Undergraduate (bachelor's)

  • Class 12 with 70%+ in relevant subjects
  • IELTS 6.0–6.5 or equivalent
  • Personal statement

Postgraduate (master's / MBA)

  • Bachelor's degree, typically 60%+ (2:1 equivalent) for top universities
  • IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or equivalent

Student visa

Irish Study Visa: process and documents

Indian students apply online through AVATS, then submit documents and biometrics via VFS. After arrival you register with immigration to receive Stamp 2 permission and an IRP card.

Working in Ireland during and after your studies

While you study

Stamp 2 holders can work up to 20 hours per week during term and up to 40 hours per week in June–September and 15 December–15 January.

After graduation

The Third Level Graduate Programme (Stamp 1G) gives 1 year after a Level 8 qualification and up to 2 years after a Level 9 master's or higher.

  • You can move to a Critical Skills Employment Permit or General Employment Permit with a job offer.
