Eligibility

Admission requirements for Japan

English-taught programs typically need TOEFL iBT 80+ or IELTS 6.0–6.5. Japanese-taught programs usually need JLPT N2 or N1 and EJU scores.

Undergraduate (bachelor's)

  • Class 12 (12 years of schooling)
  • EJU for many programs, or SAT/IB for English-taught programs
  • IELTS/TOEFL for English programs or JLPT for Japanese programs

Student visa

Japan Student Visa: process and documents

Your school applies for a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) on your behalf. Once issued, you apply for the student visa at a Japanese embassy or consulate (often via VFS in India).

Working in Japan during and after your studies

While you study

Up to 28 hours per week during term with permission, and up to 8 hours a day during long school holidays.

After graduation

Graduates can change to a 'Designated Activities' status for job hunting (up to 1 year), then to a work visa such as Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services.
